Murchison Falls National Park, located in northwestern Uganda, is the country’s largest and oldest conservation area. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located in the far southwest of Uganda, is the country’s smallest national park but one of its most spectacular. It forms part of the larger **Virunga Conservation Area, which Uganda shares with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The park is renowned for being home to the endangered **mountain gorillas, and visitors can trek to meet the habituated Nyakagezi gorilla family—a remarkable, intimate wildlife experience. Mgahinga is also one of the best places in Africa to encounter the rare and playful golden monkeys.

The highlight of Kibale is chimpanzee trekking, where visitors follow experienced guides into the forest to observe chimp families in their natural habitat. The park is also home to 13 different primate species, including red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and the rare Uganda mangabey.
